What does the word, ‘environment’ bring to mind?
One area of focus for Rotary International is “Supporting the Environment.” A fellow Rotarian and I are co-chairs for our districts “committee of the environment.” The purpose is to encourage and support efforts in clubs in our district in support of this focus.
Environment has a different meaning for different people. It could mean recycling, clean water, climate change, or any other of many topics. And of course the environment is all of this; including the social environment that exists within the “natural environment”. It is all linked.
It is my view that education and awareness of these intertwined sets of systems and subsystems are a crucial first step in “supporting the environment.”
